This pretty old village perches on a hillside near Kalithea, on northern Greece’s Kassandra peninsula. It’s best known for its sandy beach, though it’s also bagged the best of the countryside, being surrounded by woodland and olive groves. There’s a cool spring – the kriopigi that gives the town its name – together with a quaint town square and an ancient amphitheatre.

This place is nestled on a hillside in Kriopigi. It lines up first-rate sea views from its pool and terrace. You’re a 15-minute walk from the nearest beach – a huge, pebbly stretch lapped by calm, shallow water that’s so clear you’ll be able to see your shadow while you swim.

Back at the hotel, you can take in the sea views from the pool. It’s a lagoon-shaped number that shares a terrace with a snack bar and a circle of sun loungers.
